Steps to Your New Home
- Schedule any inspections requested in contract.
- Complete removal of contingency form with real estate agent, if applicable.
- Copy of completed contract will be faxed to your attorney by your realtor.
- Realtor will provide you with a copy of the contract to give to your lender.
- Immediately after acceptance of offer, meet with your lender and complete a mortgage application.
- Receive final bank commitment – typically in 4 weeks.
- Start packing!
- Contact Community Helping Hands (487-1488) or any other organization of your choice to donate any unusable household items you will not be taking with you.
- Reserve moving van.
- Attorney and lender will set the final “close” date on the property.
- Notify utility companies of closing date so that utilities can be transferred.
- Schedule final walk-thru inspection with realtor if desired (recommended).
- Sign all closing documents with attorney.
- Notify post office of change of address.
- Once transaction is officially on record – keys will be released to you.
- Remember to apply for the STAR reduction applicable to school taxes at your local assessor’s office or online at www.orps.state.ny.us prior to March 1st.
